Description:

The UNDP/UNEP Global Support Program (GSP) in partnership with the Governments of Brazil and Belgium, with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) of the German Government and with the additional support of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and the Portuguese Government, have established the Lusophone Cluster of the Partnership on Transparency in the Paris Agreement, with the aim of promoting ambitious climate action through practical exchange. In particular, the Lusophone Cluster of the Partnership on Transparency will aim to promote the exchange of experiences between Portuguese-speaking countries and strengthen capacities to fulfill the communication and transparency obligations included in the framework of the UNFCCC and its Paris Agreement.

The Lusophone Cluster will be formally launched on June 19, 2017 at the headquarter of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries in Lisbon, Portugal, as a three-day workshop (June 19th to 21st) will be convened to discuss key elements of the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) and transparency frameworks.

Key points of discussion will include:

1) A General overview on transparency and MRV under UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.

2) Institutional framework for transparency.

3) Inventories of greenhouse gases and IPCC guidelines.

4) The process of International Consultation and Analysis (ICA).

5) Future activities of the Lusophone Cluster.

Countries participants will exchange experiences and lessons learnt among each other, fostering south-south and north-south collaboration and peer to peer support.
